Custom Waterless Vault Restroom

No. 88002  |  Lake Tahoe, California

The Project

The Emerald Bay campground and recreation area in Lake Tahoe, California needed a waterless vault type restroom.  Protecting the integrity of the lake is vital, but water, sewer, and electric are not always available in the more remote areas of Lake Tahoe.  The campground called for a waterless bathroom, but there is a look, an atmosphere around the Lake Tahoe area that must be upheld.  They came to Romtec, for a custom designed building that said rustic, natural, but unique to their site.

They wanted a vault restroom that was time-tested to withstand heavy use, yet was environmentally sustainable and friendly.  They needed all this, but with an exterior design that by its mere presence said “Lake Tahoe” to its visitors.

The Solution

Romtec designed as Aspen Double, SST waterless restroom building with side-by-side individual user rooms.  They used a stone wainscoting on the exterior with a unique stained plank siding above the stone.  Instead of standard privacy walls, Romtec designed a custom log detail with plank siding between the logs to act as the privacy screen.  Romtec used their proven SST technology with their patented polyethylene tanks that resist odor absorption and prevent inflow and infiltration from ground water and runoff.

Romtec provided the woodsy, rustic feel the campground was looking for with a time-proven waterless vault system that would withstand the rigors of campground use.  This exceptional site and the custom designed restroom exude an atmosphere sought after by those seeking to “get away from it all” and are seeking out the beauty, peacefulness, and many recreation opportunities afforded by the Lake Tahoe area, but still do not want to completely do without modern conveniences.  With Romtec’s unique design, they can have both.
