id="more-4150">

This year, 2010, was the 25th anniversary of the school and a cause for celebration for all involved. Romtec sponsored the Softball game where a great banner hung at the field reminding everyone of who was sponsoring the event. With budget’s tight everywhere, without the sponsorship from companies like Romtec for events such as the softball game these events would probably have to be cut from the program.

The softball game is always a fun time and like no other game you will see. Rubber chickens, yellow penalty flags, gifted home runs, and ensuring the board of regents stay well refreshed and hydrated, are all a part of the festivities. Several times throughout the game the participants on both teams broke into chants of “Romtec, Romtec, Romtec”. It’s a great feeling to take part in this event.

During the Wednesday lunch, the handful of invited vendors get the full attention of almost all attendees, a full page advertisement in their student books, and this year an opportunity to pitch our products and services before lunch. There are not many situations these days that are a win-win for all involved, but this is truly one of them. It is a huge opportunity for Romtec and we help ensure that the school continues to be able to offer recreational opportunities, such as the softball game where camaraderie, physical exercise, and just a plain old fashioned good time is had by all.

This year, again, Romtec was given a beautiful plaque, thanking us for our sponsorship. This relationship with PSMMS is one that Romtec holds near and dear to our hearts. There is mutual respect and friendships that have developed over the last 4 years and we hope it continues for many more.

The setting is beautiful, the invitation honored, the hosts gracious, the participants kind, respectful, and just plain fun. It is the best event I have attended and the one I look forward to the most every year. Romtec thanks CPRS for the opportunity and the hospitality.

Change Orders

Blog Categories
<guid

I don’t like black. What am I supposed to do now, I already ordered the building?

It’s simple…a change order! For some reason, this term can have a negative connotation. In reality a change order is a positive thing. I should know, my husband and I are in the middle of building a home and have discovered that we didn’t think of everything before we signed our contract.

There are so many things to consider in building a structure that our focus may not be on all the options and how they will impact the appearance and function of our project. We tried to do a mental walk-through when we designed our home but still missed quite a few things. We have made a number of changes, and it has taken the contractor awhile to help us see that change orders are really a way of getting exactly what we want. We have signed one change order and have a few more on their way. We are happy that the end result will be exactly what we want.

Similarly, Romtec wants our customers to get the exact building, with all the features – even the “Caribbean” blue roofing – that they want. That’s why we offer a straight-forward process for making change orders.

Titans & Lions, Oh My!

Blog Categories
<guid

In the 70’s, known as Cal State Who? They no longer suffer from an identity crisis having now won 4 NCAA Baseball Championships. So it’s fitting that a state of the art family sports complex – Lions Field (so named after the benefactor, the Lions Club) was built just about a mile away from the CSUF campus.

Nestled at the base of a ridge of foothills that separates the City of Fullerton from the City of
Brea, along Brea Boulevard, the new complex contains softball and baseball fields, along with a
football field complete with an electronic scoreboard. All of the fields are made of prescription
field turf in order to save on water and maintenance.

Two very unique custom Romtec restroom and concession buildings finish out the complex in
a stylistic, yet functional way. RL Ziegenbein Construction was the contractor who made it all
work. Ron utilized his vast experience as a general contractor and as a builder of Romtec facilities.
Joy Holt and Scott Walker of WEC Corporation, the general contractor for the project, were
up to the daunting task of completing this large project despite a very challenging timeline. On
August 2, 2010, the City of Fullerton held an impressive Grand Opening of the brand new Lions
Field Sports Complex right on schedule!

Compliance with Changing Accessibility Codes

Blog Categories
<guid

Romtec’s Engineering Department works to ensure that all Romtec buildings meet the current applicable codes, including the accessibility code, for the state in which the building will be installed.

Two codes form the basis for accessibility design. Each state uses one of these codes:

ICC/ANSI (International Code Council/American National Standards Institute) A117.1-2003
ADAAG (Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines)

Even small changes to the accessibility code can have significant impacts on the design of a building and the equipment in it. Romtec’s architects and designers must stay on top of these changes to ensure our designs meet applicable codes, and our buildings are high quality, cost effective solutions for our customers.
One recent code change comes to mind: ADAAG has begun requiring an 18” vertical grab in toilet stalls, a requirement that has been in the ICC/ANSI code for a number of years. Although this is a relatively small change affecting only those states that use the ADAAG code, it is not without some serious design considerations.
Adding the extra vertical grab bar means additional area on the toilet stall wall must remain clear of accessories. This clear space is currently 1.5” below and 12” above the horizontal grab bars and 1.5” each side of the vertical grab bar. While this might seem like a small area to be concerned with, the placement of accessory items such as paper dispensers and trash receptacles could be affected by the addition of the vertical grab bar. For example, if you want to have both a toilet seat cover dispenser and a sanitary napkin disposal unit, Romtec must design the layout of accessories on the stall wall accordingly.

In designing your new building, Romtec’s Engineering Department must carefully analyze and apply all applicable building codes to ensure you and the public will get the right design for your project and receive the very best value.

Hundreds of Colors

Blog Categories
<guid

My husband and I are in the beginning stages of building a home. With nearly every aspect of the house there is a color choice to be made: interior and exterior paint, roofing, plumbing fixtures, flooring, counter-tops, appliances and the list goes on. There are even textures that you never give a second thought about, but they add a great deal to the look of a house.

Designing a public restroom building or other structure is really no different from designing a house. Think about it. There are so many different options by way of textures, finishes, and colors. For example, the concrete blocks used in a Romtec building’s walls are available in split or smooth face, brown or gray color. There are also custom block textures and colors available. Exterior stucco finishes comes in a variety of textures and colors. Romtec offers our standard medium finish and “oatmeal” color, but you can choose many other stucco textures and colors. Sometimes there are costs associated with these options, but it’s no different than our new house. Our contractor wants us to be happy with the end result (me too), and Romtec feels the same.

There are many exterior siding options: HardiPlank® fiber-cement, cedar lap, cedar board & batten, log, chinked plank and any number of combinations. Each of these offers a different look and texture. You can also choose the color of paint or stain for the siding.

Romtec also offers many styles of stone/masonry exterior finish for the building’s entire wall surface or in combination with concrete block or siding for a truly custom look. Be sure to visit our website’s Custom Design Center to see some of the choices available to you.

Roofing options are plentiful. Choose Romtec’s standard delta-rib metal or upgrade to standing seam metal in a wide variety of colors. Maybe you prefer tile roofing or composition shingles or cedar shakes, tile, and the list goes on as well as the color options from our color charts.

For your building’s interior, Romtec’s epoxy wall finish texture and color will add greatly to the look and feel of the structure. Romtec typically calls out white but there are virtually unlimited colors from which to choose. What’ll it be?

Really, I’ve just begun. Your very own building design can have many color and texture choices. My husband and I are having fun designing our new home with the colors and textures of our choice. You’ll have fun with the design opportunities Romtec offers, too.
