Surf City, USA

You will find Romtec buildings in some of the most awesome places!  I recently took a vacation to visit the motherland (Southern California) with my 10 year old daughter Audrey.  We enjoyed many In-N-Out burgers and fries, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, visiting family, and of course, the beach.   My daughter was amazed at how white and expansive the sand was at Huntington Beach, aka, “Surf City, USA”.  While she played in the waves just a short distance from the designated surfing zone which spans the famous Huntington Beach Pier, I casually watched the local surfers carving against the backdrop of the pier.  As my eyes scanned the length of the pier, I notice the brand new Romtec buildings situated strategically along the pier walk.

Earlier this year, Romtec completed the construction of three highly custom retail outlets on the pier, each one serving a different common need for beach visitors.   One shop, called “Surf City” caters to beachgoers who are looking to rent surf boards or body boards and/or take surfing lessons from one of the ubiquitous local surf gurus.  A second, called “Let’s go Fishing” caters to visiting anglers by offering a wide variety of fishing tackle, equipment, and live or packaged bait.  A third, called “Go Fly a Kite” caters to visiting kite enthusiasts who wish to take advantage of the daily afternoon westerlies that pick up about 2 o’clock and don’t fade until just before the sunsets over Catalina Island.  All three of these buildings had to meet very specific design criteria including the matching of the main Life Guard Tower that sits prominently toward the end of the pier.  Custom windows, doors, roofing, stucco, and shape were all major design challenges.

Romtec, as the City of Huntington Beach is well aware from their experience on many other buildings, has an unequalled capacity to design custom restrooms, kiosks, and concession buildings and deliver a fully functional building in a relatively short time frame.  If you’re ever at Huntington Beach, don’t forget to walk the historic pier and check out these beautiful custom concession shops.
